Qi Gong is the energy work that students of Tai Chi work with and build to focus and enhance their practice. 

Qi (Chi) is the energy in the human body that governs the working of the nervous system and other parts of the body.  Qi  has been defined as the bioelectricity that flows through the body.  The two major purposes of Qi Gong practice are for the smooth circulation of the bioelectricity generated and the storage of that energy in specific areas of the body.  

There are many texts and websites that discuss the history, philosophy and theories behind Qi Gong study.  Some of this literature can be found listed at recommended reading.
